Does the S in SAG stand for silver? Just kidding. Kind of.
The 2022 SAG awards were held on Monday, and while we are all SO excited that HoYeon Jung won an award the real star of the show was SILVER. From jewelry (a la Ariana Debose) and outfits (Hii Daveed Diggs, call me) to the incredible makeup.
It hasn’t been seen much on the red carpet, or even in fashion lately, so I was very pleased to see its return. Using light colours on the eye make the eyes look bigger and brighter, and using silver not only adds some extra glam but it goes with EVERYTHING.
Sandra Oh stunned with a silver dress and eyeshadow combo, crafted by makeup artist Mai Quynh. Paired with rosy cheeks and lips, Oh makes me wonder if she’ll ever age. Quynh used all Armani Beauty on Oh, using the Eye Tint in shade 43 combined with the Quattro Eyeshadow Palette in Fame. These products are long lasting and photograph SO beautifully (I swear all Armani makeup photographs amazingly).
Jessica Chastain matched her silver suit with a smoked out silver eye look by makeup artist Kristofer Buckle. You can get this look using the Charlotte Tilbury Luxury Eyeshadow Palette in The Rock Chick. This is a great look for those of us with deep set eyelids – the silver brings the lids forward while the cut creased smoky eyeshadow adds a heap of dimension.
Lady Gaga, with makeup artist Sarah Tanno, opted for a mostly matte white eyeshadow with hints of silver shimmer. The actual products used to create this are yet to be released (we’re keeping our eyes peeled on Haus Labs for an update), but you can recreate a long-lasting look just like it using the Haus Labs Eye-Dentify Gel Pencil Eyeliner in Aura and Blade.
Shimmery, silver eyeshadow can work for all ages – Helen Mirren killed it with her pink and silver look. Her makeup artist, the incredible Jo Strettel, gave a complete step by step breakdown of the products AND the steps to craft this rosy hued silver look on her Instagram – check it out here. If you’re not a shopping addict like me, and don’t want to purchase every single item on the list, the two must have products to recreate her look are the L’Oreal Paris Brilliant Eyes Liquid Eyeshadow in shade Amethyst Quartz and the L’Oreal Infallible Paints Metallic in shade Caged.
Silver works for every skin tone, every age and every eye colour – so why don’t we wear it more?! I’m all for this silver eyeshadow trend and can’t wait to see who else rocks it during the rest of the awards season.
