Lists, Color Cosmetics, Tips & Tutorials

Fashion weeks are back, Pete Davidson has returned to Instagram and Euphoria’s Doniella Davy is launching her own beauty brand – nature is not only healing, it’s excelling. To celebrate the return of the runway, we’ve put together a few of our favourite beauty looks of New York’s A/W 2022 that we are super keen to try out.

Glossy Lids:

Sure you gloss your lips, but have you ever glossed your lids?! Claudia Li’s show featured subtle but striking glossy lids keyed by makeup artist Mai Mor. Focusing on dewy skin, black liner and washes of colour on lips and cheeks, the gloss has room to shine. Mor crafted a super wearable glossy lid look, with enough shine to catch the light but not so much that it looks tacky.

Shop the trend:

Makeup artist Grant Karpin used the clear Danessa Myricks Dew Wet Balm, and we adore these balms (also everything else Danessa Myricks creates). They come in multiple colours and are one of the longest wearing glossy face products you can find. We also recommend Myricks’s Colorfix Glaze or the Morphe 2 Gloss Pop Face and Eye Gloss. Applying the product to your lid using a densely packed synthetic brush like Mac’s 212 Synthetic Flat Definer Brush is best – in fact Karpin used a similar brush in their application.

Zigzag Parts:

Stock up on butterfly clips and dust off your hair crimper because 2001 is here to stay. Zig zag parts are back and year 7 me could not be more excited. With a lightning and electrical energy inspired theme at the Marrisa Wilson show, hairstylist Kien Hoang breathes new life into the look that the Spice Girls made iconic. Although the sculptural braids, fashioned in the shapes of lightning bolts, may need a professional like Hoang to craft, the zigzag part is a super easy and wearable trend – just ask Bella Hadid!

Shop the trend:

All you need is a carbon tail comb, styling products if you use them and an appropriate amount of time revisiting oldschool Christina Aguilera and Mandy Moore music.

Mermaid vibes:

Slicked hair and glassy skin dominated the runway this season, with the ultimate culmination of these vibes seen at the Altuzarra show. It gave major mermaid energy with an all-over wet look and cool toned smokey eyes. The shapes of the hair and shadows are more organic than Kim Kardashians iconic Met Gala wet look, giving a relaxed cool girl vibe.

Shop the trend:

To give your skin that mermaid glow, you want to use a dewy foundation like the Ilia Super Serum Skin Tint (find your perfect shade match here) topped with a face gloss like the Gucci Eclat De Beaute Effet Lumiere Gel Face Gloss. Makeup artist Dick Page used MAC eyeshadows,  though we are obsessed with the Urban Decay Naked Wild West Eyeshadow palette to recreate this look.

Punk (Dauphinette)

Dauphinette gave us some of the most fun looks this season, with angelic punk rock looks crafted by makeup artist Elika Hilata and hairstylist Mandee Tauber. There were mullets and spikes up top, paired with punk ombre green and blue lips. These bold shapes and colours were paired with freshy, dewy skin giving an angel-devil like juxtaposition.

Shop the trend:

Get the punk rock look using the same product as Hilata: the Danessa Myricks The Future is Female Waterproof Cream Palette. Using the black and blue on the outer corners of the lips before filling the rest of the lips with the green shade. As far as foundation goes, a medium coverage dewy finish foundation like Giorgio Armani’s Luminous Silk would be *chefs kiss* (to find your foundation shade in this range, click here)

Asymmetrical beauty

I’ve always thought people who wore one statement feather earring or different coloured sneakers were super cool, but makeup artist Nick Lujan has taken it to the next level this season with their asymmetrical eye looks for Marissa Wilson.  Monochrome brown eyes and lips were paired with a lightning bolt of shimmer across one eye giving a futuristic magical vibe. If you’re anything like me, and can never make your looks match on both sides, then asymmetrical trends are what we’ve been waiting for.

Shop the trend:

For the eyeshadow and lips, we recommend the Bobbi Brown Long-Wear Cream Shadow stick in Bark paired with the Revlon Super Lustrous Lipstick in Mink. To give yourself the lightning bolt, use a liquid liner like Urban Decays Heavy Metal Glitter Eyeliner in Midnight Cowboy.

Wet look hair, Y2K vibes and glassy skin were all over the runway this season but do you think these trends will trickle down to us normies? I, for one, hope so!!
